The 12 Month #Nothing to Lose Challenge- Week 2 (Read Time: 2 min.)

NTL 8Here’s the Week 2 Challenge (short, sweet, and super critical work to do this week):

As an entrepreneur, what you’re getting compensated in your business is being driven by your behavior.  Spend some time this week looking at your #s (profit and loss, your bank account, sales for the last 12 months, etc.).  Are you making the kind of money you want to be making?  If not, what behaviors have been driving these less-than-desirable results?

What’s it going to take from you (in terms of behavior) THIS week in order to change what you’re being compensated in the long run?

What are the next 3 actions you’re going to take to change your compensation equation?

Please leave a comment and let me know what your next 3 actions are and follow up by posting when you’ve completed those 3 actions.

Have a great week!

The #Nothing To Lose 12 Month Challenge – Week 1 in Review (Read Time: 1 min.)

NTL 8Week 1 was interesting… Very little went according to plan.  I got sick with a stomach virus the first half of the week and missed my workouts on those days.  I lost time writing my next Kindle book, changed course on what book I was writing, and did not record any of the new podcasts I’d planned to record last week.

It’s amazing how plans can go out of whack when your health hits a speed bump.

That was an epiphany for me and it resulted in me shifting some ways that I’m operating in my business.

Click below and listen to Week 1 in Review.  I talk about the 3 main #NothingtoLose lessons for the week and what we can do to apply them in Week 2.

#NothingtoLose Challenge: Week 1- Step Up to the Plate (Read Time: 4 min.)

NTL 2In the month of January, we are going to lift as we climb.  In other words, we have 3 objectives in January:

  1. Ingrain the #NothingtoLose approach into our lives (life and business- not separate, intertwined).
  2. Create a daily routine that reflects our commitment to MASSIVE Daily Action (MDAs).
  3. Take MASSIVE Daily Action (no excuses now so there won’t be regrets later).

During this week, here’s the challenge:

  1. If you haven’t read Nothing to Lose, Everything to Gain, read it.  If you have read the book, do 2 things: 1) Re-read Chapters 1-8, 2) If you didn’t write a review of the book on Amazon, do so by the end of the week (Remember: Life is about what we give, not what we get).
  2. Create space in your office/home/bedroom for a #NothingtoLose tracking board.  I’ve posted a pic of mine on Instagram (  This is going to be your hub for your goals, objectives, and results.  It needs to be located in a place where you can see it daily and use it as a brainstorming/results review hub.  See this board as your visual for reporting, on a weekly basis, to your shareholders and stakeholders (at this moment, that could easily be YOU.  But, remember, YOU are the CEO of your life and the essence of your brand.  Report to yourself as you would a board of directors).  If you had to stand before a board at the end of each week, what would you want to show them?  What would they be expecting to see?  How easily could you use this board to demonstrate your accomplishments and pitch your ideas?  That’s how your board should look.  The first thing I want you to put up on your board (preferably smack dab in the middle of the board- see my board pic on Instagram for an example) are the 10 steps to being successful that @RyanBlair writes about on page 30.  You’ve got the book so the 10 steps are there 🙂
  3. Perform a 2014 Goal audit.  There’s only one question you need to answer if you’re going to experience MASSIVE success in 2015: What’s it going to take?  However, you can’t answer that question fully unless you know how you did and where you went wrong in 2014.  Spend some time this week (buy a journal just for #NothingtoLose or use Evernote) reviewing your 2014 year in business.  If your business is brand new, look at your life goals and review 2014.  Spend 5 minutes identifying your top 3 successes for last year.  No more than 5 minutes.  Anyone who’s a frequent reader of my blog knows one thing about me: I firmly believe that failure is a much greater teacher than success.  We want success but getting AND keeping it requires that we get SUPER good at learning from failure.  Pat yourself on the back for 5 minutes and let’s move to the more important thing: evaluating your top 3 failures from 2014.  Use @RyanBlair’s post mortem approach (on pages 35 and 36 of the book-hardcover) to evaluate your top 3 failures.
  4. Use the comments section to create accountability & connect with others. Comment below and identify what 3 steps you’ll take by the end of this week (Sunday, January 11th by midnight in your time zone) to ensure that you take a #NothingtoLose approach in your business and do not repeat the failures of 2014.  Follow up your comment as soon as you’ve completed all three steps.  I’ll be doing the same.

There it is.  And, if you need some extra motivation, listen to the weekly #NothingtoLoseChallenge SoundCloud audio I’ve created for Week 1.

Take the #NothingToLose 12 Month Challenge with me… (Read Time: 2 min.)

FTF 3There is nothing more dangerous than someone with nothing to lose.

– Ryan Blair, Nothing to Lose, Everything to Gain

2015 is now in full swing and it’s time to do things DIFFERENTLY.

As much as I love the 30, 60, and 90 day challenges, let’s get real:

Being consistent and persistent in an area for 90 days IS NOT going to transform your entire life or business if that’s the only amount of time you spend being consistent AND persistent.  It won’t.

And what I see most people doing is just that: jumping on board for a 12 week challenge, feeling gung-ho about it for the first two or three weeks, hanging on for another 3 or 4 weeks, barely finishing out the 12 weeks and then returning to their “normal” lives where they don’t remain consistent and persistent over the long haul.

It’s time to stop that.

It’s time to stop buying books that we read, feel great about but never do anything with.

It’s time to stop the need for immediate gratification ALL OF THE TIME.

Commitment means that you do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.  The words of Elbert Hubbard.  #justsayin

So I’m on a mission this year.  I could read 12-30 books this year and get a tidbit out of each of them (you know, a feel good moment, an AHA realization or a “Yeah, I should do that” nod of approval) but I’m trying something different this year.  In 2015, I’m going to use ONE book as my flagship approach.  This one book is going to be what I focus my efforts on, how I approach my day to day and week to week and, then, on December 31st, 2015, I’m going to evaluate the results.

I’m inviting you to join me on this 12 month challenge.

On average, it takes 10,000 hours to achieve mastery of any skill set.

We’re going to spend the next 12 months mastering the “Nothing to Lose” approach to business.  If you don’t have a business or don’t plan on starting a business this year, this is probably not the 12 month challenge for you.  If you’re an entrepreneur, you’ve come to the right place.

Here’s how it’s going to work:

Step 1: Read Ryan Blair’s book, Nothing to Lose, Everything to Gain: How I Went from Gang Member to Multimillionaire Entrepreneur
Library, Amazon, a friend.  Get the book, read it, soak it in.  That’s going to be the foundation of this entire 12 months.  I’ll be talking about the book.  However, if you haven’t read it, you won’t be able to fully participate in the challenge.  Invest in yourself: buy the book.

Step 2: Follow this blog so you get the weekly challenges in your inbox.  Every week, I’m going to post a #NothingtoLose Challenge.  Accountability happens when you post your questions, comments, and results as a comment for each week’s blog post.

Step 3: Keeping motivation and momentum going  via Twitter.  Let’s keep each other gung-ho by using the hashtag #NothingtoLoseChallenge.

Step 4: Do the work DAILY.  Daily massive action.  This book is a POWERHOUSE of information IF you use it.  A #NothingtoLose approach REQUIRES daily massive action.  Nothing less will do.

Are you ready?

Let’s go!
